Advertisement: For sinus pain, three out of four hospitals give their patients Novex. So when you want the most effective painkiller for sinus pain, Novex is the one to choose.
Which of the following, if true, most seriously undermines the advertisement’s argument?
(A) Some competing brands of painkillers are intended to reduce other kinds of pain in addition to sinus pain.
(B) Many hospitals that do not usually use Novex will do so for those patients who cannot tolerate the drug the hospitals usually use.
(C) Many drug manufacturers increase sales of their products to hospitals by selling these products to the hospitals at the lowest price the manufacturers can afford.
(D) Unlike some competing brands of painkillers, Novex is available from pharmacies without a doctor’s prescription.
(E) In clinical trials Novex has been found more effective than competing brands of painkillers that have been on the market longer than Novex.

I'm liking C as well. The stem concludes that Novax is the most effective b/c 3/4 hospitals use it.

C) states that they decrease the price so that hospitals buy it. Hospitals buy it b/c it's cheap not b/c it's effective. The other answer choices are mostly out of scope and E) seems to strengthen it.

[H] - hospitals
[N] - Novex

Argument: [H] use [N] (Assumption: [H] use only the best painkiller). Therefore, [N] is the best.

C destroys the assumption: there is other reason why [H] use [N].
B does not influence on the assumption and on the validity of the argument.

I go with C as well. Here is my explanation:

(A) Some competing brands of painkillers are intended to reduce other kinds of pain in addition to sinus pain.
Question is discussing about sinus paint not about other pain, so this is not required.

(B) Many hospitals that do not usually use Novex will do so for those patients who cannot tolerate the drug the hospitals usually use.
It proves that Novex is more useful. Infact it supports argument. It says those who cannot tolerate other drugs can tolerate Novex so that makes Novex all the more effetive.

(C) Many drug manufacturers increase sales of their products to hospitals by selling these products to the hospitals at the lowest price the manufacturers can afford.
It is not because of effectiveness that Hospitals are using Novex but because that it is sold at cheaper price thereby hospitals are using it more.

(D) Unlike some competing brands of painkillers, Novex is available from pharmacies without a doctor’s prescription.
If Novex is available without prescription then anyone can get it without problem. More accessibility more sales. It strenthens rather than weaken the thing.

(E) In clinical trials Novex has been found more effective than competing brands of painkillers that have been on the market longer than Novex.
This again strenthens the argument rather than weaken it.

I've found this in OG11: p470, CR#10 - OA is C

I found myself disagreeing with quite a few of the 1000 series question/answers. Be careful with them, they are good for practice, but not the most reliable in terms of answers.

Good catch tho.
