Advertisement: Northwoods Maple Syrup, made the old-fashioned way, is simply tops for taste. And here is the proof: in a recent market survey, 7 out of every 10 shoppers who expressed a preference said that Northwoods was the only maple syrup for them, no ifs, ands, or buts.

D is the best answer because it provides a legitimate reason other than taste as to why 7 out of every 10 shoppers prefer Northwood syrup.

The advertisement is all about taste. If anything but taste is the main factor people pick this syrup, then the advertisement is misleading. In D, price is the main factor.

I get D as well.

I would have went for A if the proportion of shoppers expressing a preference was small.

Ex. 1000 people survey, and only 10 people had a preference and 7 of those chose Northwoods. Statistically you would be correct but you would only be talking about 7 out of 1000 people.

It seems like the set the problem up to lead you in that direction which is why they placed that answer 1st.

For CR I have to read all the answer choices even if I think I have the answer.

C does not say that the survey is not a sample of the entire population.

C) No market survey covers more than a sizable minority of the total population of consumers.

It says that the survery is not more than a sizable minority

So it could still be a sizeable minority.

The word sizeable implies that there is a decent amount.

ex. If 48 people out of 100 were surveyed, the 48 were surveyed and 52 were not. 48 people would be a "sizeable minority".

But even if we look past the actually numbers C does not address if the number of people were representative of the whole.

You could survery 100 people who could be a good sample size for 1,000,000 people if they are represenative of the whole.

Advertisement claims the taste to be top. thus any option that shows that there is a different reason of purchase would help us nail the answer.

D does that by showing the preference for exceptionally low price
