I have taken GMAT twice now and scored 570(V27 Q43) & 560(V24 Q44) in the two attempts. I was aiming for 650-700 range.
For the first attempt I studied only from Princeton review, Kaplan GMAT 800 and
OG 10.
After the first exam my assessment of low performance in verbal section was that I did not understand the basics of SC and wasn't consistent & comfortable with CR & RC.
So in the second attempt I concentrated more on SC, CR & RC. Studies for 2 months.
Got approval from office to work from home whenever possible so that I avoid commuting and save time for studying. Even took one week off from work before the GMAT exam.
Worked on understanding the SC basics, understanding CR argument & RC passage structures.
In addition to books used in attempt #1, I bought
OG 11, Critical Reasoning Bible, studied grammar basics, used GMATTER and participated more on this forum.
I could solve around 80% of the SC & CR problems posted in this forum and I practiced RC a lot (from rc 1000) until I gained confidence.
I did not take the gmat prep but I scored 590 twice on 2 Kaplan tests I took.
Reading through the forum I found that a Kaplan tests are much harder than actual GMAT, so I knew I could score in the 650 range.
I am disappointed by my GMAT scrores but not discouraged (not yet !!).
I will be taking the GMAT again.
I would like to hear from anyone who has done well on GMAT after two attempts and what changes they made to their GMAT preparation.
Also how do the B-Schools view applications with more than 2 GMAT takes ?
