advice about rescheduling test [#permalink] New post 20 May 2012, 10:05
Hi.
I am supposed to take the exam in 8 days.
today i have taken the sample mgmat test and got
630(34v, 43q).
does anyone have any intake about how well the test reflects the actual
level?
I want to score over 715.
I can take one week off from work to study for this, but i am not sure i will
be able to get 75 points higher in one week.
advice, anyone?

If you reschedule and there is less than 7 days left, you will lose the entire sitting fee for the test. Otherwise it's a $50 rescheduling fee.

It's up to you if you want to reschedule or not. Getting your score up that much is possible, but not likely (assuming that was your first practice test).

Hi Ron,

I was actually in a similar position. I just reschedule my exam hours ago.

On about 4 practice exams, I was scoring up to the mid 600s. Ultimately, here were some of the reasons why I decided to reschedule:
Application Due Date: I'm looking to apply during the last few months of the year. Thus, I was able to push it back since I'm planning a bit early.
Personal Performance: I started at 570 then worked my way up to 650 over 2 months. My goal is 720. With just over a week left, my odds weren't likely.
Repercussions: None! I wasn't fighting a deadline so it didn't hurt. Ultimately, I pushed my exam back about 10 weeks so I can give myself a better shot.

In the end, you'll have to consider everything. Is there a date coming up you're trying to beat? Do you personally feel ready to score 715? Finally, are there any repercussions by pushing it back some time? I'm sure there are plenty more questions you'll need to think about but above are some of the things that helped me make my decisions. Good luck and keep us posted!

In the same position.
Have been scoring mid 600s on MGMAT exam, looking to get over the 730 mark.
I understand the statistics show that your score won't be much greater than practice exams, but I am convinced that by spending quality time targeting weak points, you can achieve the score you want.

I have my exam scheduled for June 2nd, and will be applying this fall. I need to make the decision by tomorrow before 4PM CST, so I am not charged $250.

In your experience/opinion, would you advise on holding off if you are not getting the score you are aiming for?

Thanks,
RP

Hello,

With given information of MGMAT mock, i would say that

1) In general, verbal of MGMAT is relatively easy, and V-34 in your mock (if this has been consistent over a series of 3/4 tests) is a concern (considering the assumption that you are targeting 720+).

2) Quant of MGMAT is very similar to what one actually encounters at real GMAT, I have seen the most similarities in the Quant scores of MGMAT and real GMAT, here your Quant is 43. If this 43 is trend of your performance in last 3/4 tests, it is a concern (considering you want to score 720)

I am trying to give you a realistic picture since you have shown readiness to reschedule.

If we talk about growing from 630 to 720 in a few days, this is probably possible when your fundamentals are crystal clear and you are struggling with time management, else it is very difficult (for any applicant) to improve the score from 630 to 720 in short time.

Have you taken GMAT prep, if not, take the same and see how you are doing with the test

Above all, the decision to reschedule also depends on when are you applying and to which schools ?, if you think you have time, you can play safe to reschedule.

Hope this helps
