Advice re GMAT Score please? Many thanks [#permalink] New post 06 Jul 2005, 08:24
Hi

I am a little concerned that my GMAT score is too low for Columbia. I am applying to the accelerated program. I just sat the exam today and scored 670 (Quant 48/ Verbal 34). Is it high enough that it won't instantly rule me out? Should I sit it again?

I studied law at Columbia and did the LL.M program where I was there as a Fulbright Scholar. I came ranked 1 in law in Sydney and 1 in my accounting degree. I hope that they will see that as a 4.0. I am an Aussie. I am working as a M&A lawyer in London and have about 3-4 years working experience - 2 in London and 1+ bit in Sydney.

Am I just being paranoid about my GMAT score? Do you think I will need to sit it again? Will the fact I studie at Columbia be of help, even though I got fairly average scores (around a B+, B).

Any advice you give would be very helpful.

Best wishes
Tony

Your 670 won't immediately rule you out. Certainly having a higher school would probably help a bit, but you're within the 80% range at Columbia, so if the rest of your application was really strong, you'll have a shot. It's good to see that you're quant score is strong too.

Your previous work at Columbia should be a sellling point. It sounds like you have an interesting profile that should help as well. Your background in law should help offset your "so-so" verbal score.
