Advice, should I retake or not? [#permalink] New post 13 Apr 2014, 07:52
Hi to everybody!

I would like to explain my experience during the last 3 months and hear your advices.

I've been studying for 3 months, reviewing math concepts, studying grammar, reading gmat experiences, etc. Once I had all the topics reviewed I took some CAT exams:

1. MGMAT-1 660
2. MGMAT-2 680
3. GMAT Prep 1 710
4. GMAT Pill 720

So once the 700 barrier was broke I decided to take the exam. The result was

IR 8
QUANT 47 73%
VERBAL 31 60%
AWA 5
TOTA SCORE 640

I was shocked and frustrated; how could I perform so bad? analyzing each part I found that my quant score was on my average but that the verbal score was really under the average. One week after the exam, I'm wondering whether my verbal score could be improved and how? I believed that scoring around 39 in verbal should be enough to broke the 700 barrier, but I don't know how I should study?

Could you guys recommend me the best online course to study and improve my verbal? I will like to retake my gmat examen in 1 month. I also would appreciate any comment or recommendation that you would like to share with me.

Thank you guys!

The best thing you can do, is to purchase a college-level English grammar book, and read and study it straight through. I recommend this to all my clients, and get great results!

I'm a former Harvard interviewer, and Harvard grad and currently run the MBA Consulting firm: MBA Ivy League

The above should help!

Hi ArnauAnglerill,

Have you tried the OG books yet? They will likely help you tackle some standard GMAT English grammar questions.

Regards,

Elizabeth

Its very possible you didn't take enough CATs or full sections to build your mental endurance. Verbal is the last section on the test, so your score dip there could be from that. Or, you may just need more strategy refinement and practice with the Verbal section.

If you are definitely looking for an online course, Manhattan GMAT and Economist GMAT would both be good choices.

I think you could also self-study further with equal or better results to an online course. My book GMAT Clarity (amazon link) can help you do that.
