The question deals more with post-MBA, but I think your experienced input in this matter would be greatly helpful

I am currently an senior Bio/Public health major. I am ex premed and after applying to jobs I have two offers. One is a software implementation position that pays very well and has better benefits. I have no real computer science background, but they were looking for science people who they can train in CS so they can understand the clients (who are research labs) better. The other is an analyst position with a pharma consulting company. They pay is $10K less initially, and career path there is similar to other consulting companies.

I have taken my GMAT got a 730 and have 3.69 GPA at a top 15 undergrad school. I want to get my MBA in 3-5 years after working. My concern is that after my MBA would my career options be more limited with the software implementation job rather than the consulting job. I would assume the consulting job has a more translatable skills, however I would prefer the software job because it interests me more and higher pay atleast for the next 3-5 years.

The problem is that I don't understand really how post-MBA hiring works. I know that there obviously some relevance of your pre-MBA field, but how important is that? Could someone you elaborate on this works. WOuld it be difficult for me to branch out if I took the software job vs the consulting job. My fear is that my major/background is leans toward pharma consulting, as opposed to the software job because I am not CS major, and thus future jobs outside this company may be difficult to come by. So my hope is that in addition to internal promotion with the software company, with MBA I could do something else/work different interesting. If I could not, I would do the consulting job
