After 6 games, team B had an average of 61.5 points per game. If it got only 47 points in game 7, how many more points does it need to score to get its total above 500?

(6*61.5) + 47 +x >500

369+47+x > 500

416+x >500

=> x>84

There is something wrong with your post. are you sure the answer is 83.5?

I agree with Spidy001. Answer is X>84, and not X>83.5

x>84
x=84 gives exactly 500

I believe the question should be

What is the least no of points does the team need to score to get its total above 500?

Then you could use 501 as the base point.. if not, above 500 can be any number. .
