I think this is an "expression" rather than "grammatical" issue.
The main idea of a sentence is that "gas is supplied almost exclusively from reserves in north america". All the rest modifies the sentence.
Therefore (D)

it is indeed d.
e is too wordy and doesnt make sense.since natural gas is the biggest fuel resource of united states ,the word 'states' in b should be followed by an apostrophe.c also has the same problem apart from altogether sounding odd.a must have an 'is' before supplied.
