Hi I believe the issue might be that you are attempting but not reviewing the answer choices properly. I would suggest make a detailed plan to study where you do not attempt too many questions, and analyze them prperly, you can use Critical reasoning bible for CR, MGMAT SC, and RC bible also for detaield study But again i would stress... use OG answer expalantions and try to understand what is the issue with incorrect options. This will help a lot.. All the Best..

i m yet to attempt for GMAT but would suggest with what i learnt. Review the wrong one you do, in your case as you say its almost 50:50 When you review, learn the concept. That any question related to that concept, you must be able to do it right. I think, for SC, MGMAT is excellent. Just my suggestion at this stage - instead of piling books, read one thoroughly. Also, keep on practicing the DS/PS - like if you are good on that - dont lose the grip.
Make a good Plan. when you are going to retake the test. Accordingly what time you will give to each section. When to take Mock Test. Everyday make a review of what you learnt and how you will apply it.

Great tips. I agree with everyone else in that learning why you got each problem wrong is important. Also, being able to form a strategy the next time you encounter a similar problem you know how to attack it. Good luck with your re-take (I'm also studying for mine as well).

I am going to come up with something that worked for me I struggled with MGMAT SC for a week my verbal went up from V28 to V33 straight Then it just hovered around V34 I agree that MGMAT guides are great, but i think they are not very lucid. Why dont you try a course that is designed for Verbal like gmatpill or egmat? I lacked discipline, so I took Knewton and found it to be extremely helpful having a tutor explaining the concepts. Just my two cents. EDIT: I would also like to point out that SC Grail is a much better resource than MGMAT SC for a guy who is just starting out. IMHO though

I am retaking the GMAT also... here is what I did - 1) To get the passion back go through GMATCLUB forum and just keep reading.. read people's stories, success stories.. just read anything .. don't do questions. It will inspire you and tune your mind back to GMAT mode. Worked for me! 2) Join a course with money back guarantee - masterGmat, Knewton, E-GMAT , GMAT Pill.. Choose whichever you like. These courses will give you all the material you need plus give you the most important thing you need-DISCIPLINE in your performance. 3) Maintain an Error Log. This is compulsory. Search GmatCLub for " error log" and you'll get many examples.

I didn't really have a formalized verbal strategy but I recommend that you take the point of above literally and read. When I took my first prep test I think scored a 35 in verbal, but throughout my 2 month study period I became enthralled in a series of very long novels. Literally by doing something fun, I inadvertently boosted my score to a 42. This strategy might work even better if you are not a native speaker since the experience will build your vocab.
One thing to note, I was and still am terrible at s/c. My test CATs would show that I'd get 1 out of 4 correct, which equates to near random guessing. I realized this was a weakness that I could not overcome so instead of going crazy I said F it. I spent probably 20 secs on each s/c question, especially when they got hard, and focused on the CR and RC that I knew I could answer confidently.
Although I didnt do as strong as I had hoped in quant (48), another against the grain strategy I used that seemed to work was to pretty much ignore the clock (within reason). I was confident that I could solve most GMAT problems if I had unlimited time but of course I didnt. This is a dangerous game, but I ended up spending a ton of time on the front end questions, which forced me to guess on the last 10 (seriously). Again, I am no gmat expert but somehow if you get can an 80% in math without answering the last 10 questions there is something either weighted heavily on the front end or I just got lucky, but this strategy seemed to work on the test CATs.
Use the test CATs to figure out what kind of test taking approach works for you.
Good luck

Hi I would say that you should put more efforts for practicing the full time tests. Practicing will increase your speed which will help you with better scores. Also, during practice tests, the Qs you get wrong, just analyze and practice such questions. You can also read my blog for more details - gmatexecmba.blogspot.com sanjoo wrote: I gave gmat 2 weeks back got 480 , going to start stdy seriously for second attempt and have aim to get 700+ ........I hope i l get it..!!!
