Agricultural societies cannot exist without staple crops. Several food plants, such as kola and okra, are known to have been domesticated in western Africa, but they are all supplemental, not staple, foods.
All the recorded staple crops grown in western Africa were introduced from elsewhere, beginning, at some unknown date, with rice and yams. Therefore, discovering when rice and yams were introduced into western Africa would establish the earliest date at which agricultural societies could have arisen there.

the conclusion states that to determine the earliest agricultural societies, it is sufficient to determine when rice and yams (staple crops) were introduced;
Also given, agricultural society = staple crop
argument falls apart if farmers in Western Africa developed staple crops, which they stopped cultivating when rice and yam were introduced

If the Africans had been growing some staple crop other than rice and yam, which they discontinued since introduction of rice and yam then discovering the period when rice and yam were introduced wouldn't give an accurate date for when the agri society dev in africa.
A for me as well.
