A) - The homes featured festivals? Nope.. wrong
B) LOL Festivals were held IN Aho? What a whore..
C) Improperly modifies the meaning of the sentence, as you don't know the festivals were held at her home
E) The home didn't feature this...

D Is correct because
In her home, is a verbal
And then it introduces Aho, who was a Kiowa matriach
And that she held festivals, that featured...

D

A: "they" is ambigious

B: festivals were held in Aho? Aho is a person not a place. also "which" should be next to festivals. Which is a relative pronoun and should not refer to home. Which should refer to festivals.

C: "Aho, who was a Kiowa matriarch in her home" this doesn't make sense. This suggests Aho was in someone else's home. But we don't know whose home that is.

Got to D and E. Both use "that" and sounded much better than the rest.

However, in E, "that" should refer to festivals not home. D sounds a bit more akward than E, but it is correct.

Guys

I am confused with the reasoning above. 'That' refers to home in option E ...I am not convinced. For eg.

- Power of Sikhs that is/are ........
- Festivals in Brenda's home that involve/involves ......

Which one would you guys pick? I am confused. Pls explain

Thanks

(A) Aho, a Kiowa matriarch, held festivals in her home, they featured
(B) Festivals were held in Aho, a Kiowa matriarch’s home, which featured - very awkward.
(C) Aho, who was a Kiowa matriarch in her home, held festivals featuring - so she wasnt a kiowa martriarch when she wasnt at home?
(D) In her home, Aho, a Kiowa matriarch, held festivals that featured - just odd
(E) Aho, a Kiowa matriarch, held festivals in her home that featured - Short and sweet - Correct

Please EXPLAIN your answers.

thanks

.its D..I dint see the last part of E...Home that featured is def. Wrong.

(E) Aho, a Kiowa matriarch, held festivals in her home that featured

that comes right after home in choice E. What else could that be referring? For the correct choice that should refer to festivals not home.

As per your reasoning, Its still confusing to me.
In option E,

E) Aho, a Kiowa matriarch, held festivals in her home that featured

Shouldn't 'that' refer to 'festivals'. You had mentioned earlier in your explaination of
- Festivals in Brenda's home that involve/involves

How are the above two different. Pls explain.

Thanks

I might be wrong but here is my explanation:

Festivals in Brenda's home that involve/involves - Festivals is the subject here

In the other case
Aho - is the subject

I do not think it has anything to do with Subject. 'That' refers to the noun preceding it. Now what I am confused is if the sentence construction involves middle-men like of, in , to etc.
Under such circumstances does 'that' refer to noun EXCLUDING the middle men or does 'that' refer to the noun of middle-man.

Anyone pls explain. Still too confusing.....

Thanks

In the examples above, you need to eliminate the middleman to allay your confusion..

Power of Sikhs that is/are ...

Festivals in Brenda's home that involve/involves

After eliminating those colored phrases, it is easier to find the proper verb ..

Hope this helps ..

I really doubt if you can use involve here given that home cannot involve xyz .. Hence this is not modifier is incorrect..

This can be corrected as below :
The Bush Family usually celebrates festivals in Brenda's home involving ....

The OA is D.

Anyway what I am confused is the following construction...

...... festivals in her home that singular/plural verb .....

Now here assuming there is some sentence structure before festivals and and some structure after the verb, what does 'that' refer to.

Is it home or is it festivals? Is there any rule which governs such a construction other than the rule involing 'of' as a middle-man etc.

Pls explain

(A) run-on.
(B) passive
(C) passive and un-paralleled.
(D) correct: clear and parallel
(E) changed the meaning

(D) In her home, Aho, a Kiowa matriarch, held festivals that featured

(E) Aho, a Kiowa matriarch, held festivals in her home that featured

I think (E) would be more correct in the following format: Aho, a Kiowa matriarch, held festivals, in her home, that featured
because then "in her home" is a parenthetical element. Otherwise, I would view it as

Aho, a Kiowa matriarch, held [festivals] in her [home that featured...]

(as opposed to her other home)

My 2 cents concerning the confusion in option E -

Aho, a Kiowa matriarch, held festivals in her home that featured

The central problem here is that the 'that' could refer to
a. festivals
b. home

It is not possible for the speaker to determine the antecedent from the sentence. In other words it is ambiguous.
So, option E is wrong.
