Aiming for 700+, just bought all 8 of MGMAT Books [#permalink] New post 06 Nov 2009, 03:34
Hello Everybody!

So a bit of a background, I have very low GPA, from my undergraduate (2.69) and I want to get into a Masters in Accounting program at the Golden Gate University here in San Francisco and if I get a good GMAT score, I'll improve my chance of getting in. I know it's not a top school so I probably don't need anything close to 700+ to get in, but I figured, if I'm going to take the GMAT, I might as well aim for a high score. Who knows, I might be able to use it to get into a good MBA program in a couple of years.

I just bought all 8 of Manhattan GMAT books from Amazon as well as the OG. Do you guys think that should be enough for me to study or should I get one of General Strategy books like the Kaplan Live Online? And for those who have used the Manhattan books, how many months should I allot to studying and how many hours a week? I haven't taken one of the practice tests yet but I'm usually a pretty good test taker.

Thanks a lot!

I would definitely get some sort of strategy book, I recommend Kaplan, and what I would do is review the strategy for quant in Kaplan first then dive into the Manhattan Quant Giudes, and then do the same for verbal. I would say it would take 7-10 days to get through a Manhattan Guide, but every one is different. Make sure not to rush through them, take however long you need and digest the material thoroughly before moving on. By the way I have the Manhattan Guides and have been through NP and FDP's, I really like them because I am rusty in Quant.

Hello raiikkonen,

I personally did not care for Kaplan. I had much better success with MGMAT.

Whether or not the materials will suffice for your score depends on you.

I suggest the following:

Take a diagnostic practice test to assess where you currently are. Take a test that will break down the problems by difficulty and problem type. Use this to establish a "game plan" for studying.

By purchasing the MGMAT books, you should obtain access to six (6) MGMAT practice tests. Use those tests to assess your progress and note improvements/shortcomings.
