"They" in (E) is the wrong pronoun.

Take (D) for the active voice + brevity

I don't see anything wrong with A.

It should be read as "Alaska does X with the intention to do Y".

Its definitely between C and D.
I will go with C here.

D is saying that they are intentionally exhausting the oil reserves.

C doesn`t specify whose oil reserves are being exhausted.

The last I heard, they are. Ever heard of Prudhoe Bay?

Another vote for : C

The subject in this sentence is "Alaska" - singular, B and E are out bcos of the usage of "they"

D- seems to implies .. Alaska is in the process of exhausting - deliberately - hence, changes the meaning

A - "exhaustion of its oil reserve" - is a noun - need a verb form here.. I think

I don't see anything wrong with A either. B, C and D make me feel as if it were the fund that had the intention. But I believe that it is the state (Alaska) that has the intention. E is out, because "they" has no referent.

C for me as well. I would say it is pretty clear that we are talking about Alaska's oil.

If "its" appears to refer to economy, then C is the one to go with.

I think I was wrong on the first try... :scared
