Hey Alex,

Not asking for a profile evaluation, but now that my application cycle is finished I felt I owed you a data point confirmation.

My background:
Asian American (not Chinese, Japanese, or Korean)
3.5 GPA
760-780 GMAT
2 years ptfl management consulting, then 2 years of top non-MBB consulting (think Monitor-level)
Extras include career counseling for immigrants, and over the last two years I also taught an inner-city African refugee to read.

You said: stretch at H/S/W (but not long-shot), sweet spots at K/Chi/Col/Tuck/MIT, safeties everywhere else
My results: Ding at H/S/W, in at both Columbia (with $) and Chicago. You may have been a little pessimistic with me on the T8 outside the T3, but otherwise it looks like you were mostly right! Thanks for the realistic evaluation. I have a big choice to make! _________________ My blog: http://www.theapplicationist.blogspot.com/ My application status: http://gmatclub.com/forum/2012-profiles-w-admit-dings-results-no-discussion-116595.html#p983273 MBA Admissions Consultant Joined: 26 Dec 2008 Posts: 2453 Location: Los Angeles, CA Followers: 83 Kudos [?]: 563 [0], given: 0 Re: Alex, I guess you were right [#permalink] ### Show Tags 16 May 2012, 19:21 Congrats on the acceptances! And no, I haven't made my decision yet; pretty difficult choice given the options available coming out of both schools. Got any advice on how to proceed tackling the problem? _________________ My blog: http://www.theapplicationist.blogspot.com/ My application status: http://gmatclub.com/forum/2012-profiles-w-admit-dings-results-no-discussion-116595.html#p983273 MBA Admissions Consultant Joined: 26 Dec 2008 Posts: 2453 Location: Los Angeles, CA Followers: 83 Kudos [?]: 563 [0], given: 0 Re: Alex, I guess you were right [#permalink] ### Show Tags 19 May 2012, 12:28 Depends on how much$ Columbia is offering.

If they're offering an amount that only covers the cost-of-living difference between NYC and Chicago (making the effective cost of CBS vs. Booth to be almost the same), then I would still go to Booth.

In my opinion, I would only go to Columbia over Booth if:

- CBS offered a LOT of money (i.e. at least equivalent to half tuition over both years)

- personal ties to NYC (fiancee or serious gf/partner with a career in NYC that won't allow her to move with you to Chicago and you want to stay together)

- you for some reason hate Booth or Chicago (but if you did, you probably wouldn't have applied in the first place).

Everyone is going to have differing opinions, but from what my past clients have mentioned, it seems like Booth is a bit "geekier" than CBS, but also more friendly and collegial than CBS.

In terms of recruiting and academics, it's more or less a wash, no matter what it is you're going into or what you're interested in studying academically. I'm sure there's Booth and CBS guys who will microanalyze what makes aspects of their school better than the other, but on balance it's more or less a wash.

Alex, I just committed to Booth. Thanks for all of your advice. I'm so relieved that this horrid, unforgiving process is now behind me.
