I have seen a similar question somewhere else. Can some of the experts in this forum demonstrate whether there is a step by step way of solving this question, and if that method can be applied to other questions as well?

The stimulus asks us to identify which cannot be true.

A says that --
"proportion" of good comedians who had unhappy childhoods > "proportion" of the best comedians who did

But, the stimulus says that -
"All of the best comedians have had unhappy childhoods"
Repharse -
100% of best comedians have had unhappy childhoods. (i.e proportion = 100%)

next, stimulus also says that -

"some good comedians who have had miserably unhappy"
Repharse -
Less than 100% of good comedians have had unhappy childhoods. (i.e proportion < 100%)

Combining the two -
"proportion" of good comedians who had unhappy childhoods < "proportion" of the best comedians who did

A says exactly the opposite.

Hope this helps.
