All, This is from OG 11, cited as an example of "Modification Problems" Correct:"In the Middle Ages, the world was believed to be flat." Incorrect:"In the Middle Ages, the world was flat." Other than that it is factually incorrect, what is grammatically wrong with the second sentence ?

Any comments, trying to understand how one should answer such a question. It is from the OG, so it is quite possible that one gets such a question.

Dear not to sound patronizing but you must be new to the gmat world .........GMAT SC is VERY VERY VERY much about meaning....there has been a ton of discussion on this topic....just type 'meaning' in your search bar and u'll see...

Thanks for the reply, upasana. and you are right, i am relatively new to GMAT, just started about 2-3 months ago. back to the question - again, it is not meaning that is in question, it is the truth. even false facts have meanings. e.g. if the sentence was factually incorrect like "Albany is the capital of Texas" but grammatically correct, how would a test taker in Indonesia know ?

The GMAT will not test you on topics like capital of Texas....but it will test u on subjects that are common knowledge for everyone....dont fret over it....u wont get a question which u wont be able to solve due to lack of info....
