In B...one thing to note to eliminate is the option say - many blah blah..but the QS states "few"
We cannot miss this.

C - re-emphasizes the conclusion.

C is the right answer.

If it is TRUE that absolute safety should be the sole standardization criterion, then advocate's argument is enhanced greatly.

Cheers,

Hi,

I am revisiting an old question which has been answered at length before. However, need an explanation. One of the way to strengthen is "finding new evidence". Accordingly, why cant option B be counted as new evidence?

Thanks in advance.

Simply because B is no new evidence.

Almost every modern kitchen today is equipped with a microwave oven, mainly because microwave ovens offer a fast and convenient way of cooking and reheating food. Indeed, it has become a standard appliance in most households. Studies have shown, however, that microwave ovens are not completely safe and their use has occasionally resulted in serious injury. Because of this, some consumer advocates argue that microwave ovens should not be so readily accepted as a standard appliance until they can be certified to be completely safe.

Which of the following, if true, would most strengthen the argument of the consumer advocates?

2.There have been many reported incidences of people who have been scalded by liquids superheated in microwave ovens.
B just specify an info that is already given in the text (microwave ovens are dangerous).

Hi Zarrolou,

What could be a new evidence in this case? If not possible in this one, can you cite another example of a strengthen question which might have a "new evidence" as the correct option?

Thanks

Consider the following argument:

"Marc, who is an average basketball player, will participate to the selection for the basketball team, where only the best players will be chosen. Therefore he will not be selected."
What additional evidence could strengthen this?

All the other participants to the selection are NBA All Stars. Given that Marc is an average player, this additional evidence strengthen the conclusion that he will not be selected.

Hope it's clear

The given OA is C.

The major reason is that in strengthen and weaken questions, you cannot have a reptitation of the premise.

Hence the OA is C.
