Nothing wrong with A.
"the more than 50 million" means there are a lot of Turks; and 99% of them are Muslims

Doesn't (C) sound better?
c. Although about 99 percent of more than 50 million still means aobut 99% of the turks are muslims.
And it sounds better by eradicating 'the' from the sentence. 'The' in the original construct seems redundant. What do you think ?

In A, "the" is kind of redundant. I would go for C. What's the OA?

I agree with Paul the answer choice is A.
The makes it much more stronger and focused towards 50 million turks.

this is good english ??? i really have a bad feeling and it sounds not correct to my ears, can someone confirm this is ok.
Can someone explain why D is incorrect please ?
Why not Despite ?
And 99 percent of more than 50 million sounds better no ?

the more than 50 milion turks...
adding 'the' above indicates we are talking about all turks that exist, without the the, its ambiguous whether we are talking about all turks or not.

Actually "the" makes the sentence correct. It makes clear that "50 million Turks" is the whole population of Turkey.
