Picking A.
"Although" shows better contrast.

B is wrong.
Sentence seems to be incomplete in meaning---->
Although dozens of New York’s small museums are devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, { many one-of-a-kind museums from Manhattan to the Bronx that are open for exploration on summer weekends }

I`ll take (A) here.

1. the sentence needs the second "are" to be complete.
2. "although" is correctly used to show contrast

I think A is wrong. Because, there should be same parts of speech after either and or.

Nope, it's called an ellipsis. The "devoted to" part of speech you are referring to is implied.

A stands.

I pick B
The problem with A is the placing of either/or. It should be "devoted to either local history or to various ethnic groups", I believe.

Since we need to keep the "although" B's trhe only other choice

(A) Although dozens of New York’s small museums are either devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, there are

Contrasting between museums devoted to local history/ethnic groups and "one-of-a-kind" museums

Need "Although ..."

A & B are narrow choices...

B has "many... that are open" is left hanging..

Answer : A

hmmm.....

I see it now.
Two parts of the sentence and not talking about the same thing. First part is talking about the type of museums and second is talking about their timings. So we don't need to show contrast. So choices using "although" and "but" are out i.e A,B and C are out.

Out of D and E, only D makes sense.
