A for me as well. It is active in tone as opposed to other choices. In C "...mournfully on the tops of distant hills in films about..." distant hills in films make it ambiguous.

Explanation: this is the ideam problem depict goes with as not depict to

B)non ideamatic depict .. to

C) modifier problem .. Although films VS reality
not Although coyotes .VS reality

D) mournfully wordy and awkward

E) nonideamatic depict .. to
