"to seek support from" and " to increase profit" are parallel only in the option D. Also, "seek support from" is the right idiom. So D fulfills all the needs!

I chose D because britians first national museums dosent make much sense and to seek is parallel to to increase.

(A) one of the first of Britain’s national museums seeking support from
(B) one of Britain’s first national museums seeking support of
(C) among Britain’s first national museums to seek support of
(D) among the first of Britain’s national museums to seek support from
(E) among Britain’s first national museums that have sought the support of

D it is.

The question stem says 'to increase profits'. Keeping that in mind 'to seek support' is right. Hence, we can eliminate A and B.

C and E mention 'support of' which IMO is not the right idiom.

So D it is.

Parallelism should be maintained between two verbs in the second clause ,
therefore to seek support will be more appropriate. This limits us to
options C and D.

Secondly , amongst these two options , I felt that "support from" will be
more idiomatic . "support of" is mainly used when we use the concerned
entity for some kind of support as in "support of crutches". Because we
are not seeking some kind of direct support , "support from" should be used.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

I think you are more or less spot on. It's all about whether the noun / object is in definite or indefinite form. In this context the museums are seeking support in general, hence "support from" is correct. If we added a definite article, we would have "the support of".

You can see the Wikipedia article on the subject for reference.
