"C" should be the right answer because:

A: Although is unnecessary
B: It modifies the "comet", but not immidietly followed by comet
D and E: "inside Jupiter" is incorrect

A changes the modifier to the astronomers. We need the it in B.

(A) Although just inside the orbit of
- Although what? Unclear.

(B) Although it is just inside the orbit of
- As awkward as this sounds, this is my pick.

(C) Just inside the orbit of
- Based on the word "should" in the second half of the sentence, it sounds like an "although" or "even though" should precede

(D) Orbiting just inside
- This changes the meaning of the sentence. The comet is not orbiting inside of Jupiter, but is in Jupiter's orbit.

(E) Having orbited just inside
- This sounds like the comet's already come and gone.

I'm guessing C

This is a very clear B for me.

All the other options seem to suggest that the amateur astronomers are inside the orbit of Jupiter.

My guess is C.
The Astronomers are just inside the orbit of Jupiter. That's how I read the sentence when I removed all the gibberish.

It is B.

(A) Although just inside the orbit of
- Out, who is inside the orrbit, can be astronomer...
(B) Although it is just inside the orbit of
- Here it clearly refers to comet, since it can not refer to astromer...
(C) Just inside the orbit of
- misplaced modifier, same as A
(D) Orbiting just inside
- out participle modifying astronomer--
(E) Having orbited just inside
- out participle modifying astronomer--

One more vote for B although it is not a perfect choice but the best one.
Other choices have an ambiguous modifier.

Cheers
