The meaning of the sentence is to provide a contrast. Such a contrast is obeyed in answer choices A, D & E. Hence, B & C are out.

Option A has a pronoun issue.."their", which ideally should refer to the development and hence be "it".

Option E changes the meaning.

limited usefulness- implies that the developed product's usefulness is limited, which is the intended meaning
limited in usefulness- implies that the developed product is limited to its usefulness and does not go beyond that

Option D thus emerges the winner.

the first phrase in the choice A,B,C and E is adjectival, which must refer to a noun modified. we have to find a eligible/logic noun for the first phrase. There is no such noun and they are wrong choices.

in contrast, the first phrase in choic D is adverbial , which can modify a verb/clause. we see that the realation between it and the verb "believe" is correct relation between adverbial and verb. D is ok

The meaning I got from this is that the entrepreneurs weren't useful thus far,as the word "their" indicates in the question.
Can someone explain why this is wrong?

Hi Skag55,

You are right in your analysis, as long as this pertains to the original steem: answer A. This is the case of a dangling modifier.

However, if you look at the correct answer choice, which is D, the effect doesn't occur. Remember, "although" is followed by clauses and "despite" is followed by nouns (e.g.: Despite the rain, he went out).

I hope this is clear,

at first d is not clear . we do now know what is usefulness. but , this wording is accepatable. other choices contain clear ilogicness.

it seems that veritas question is hard and use meaning analyses more
