Re: Although much has been written about the theological [#permalink]
Explanations :
(We need to carefully read the language of the question - Reasonably Inferred = implied meaning). All the options can be implied from the passage except one.

A. Cannot prove based on the informtation given. (Let us try to ELIMINATE other options - elimination strategy)

B. As mentioned in the last paragraph. The two retreats were shown to be faulty (in the twentieth century).

C. Kelvinists calculated the age of the earth between 20 to 40 million years. This impies that Darwin's theory assumed that earth is more than 40 million years old.

D. Darwin later agreed that the calculations of Kevin & Jenkin were coorect and that he adjusted his theory. Based on this understanding, we can say that Darwin's ideas of heredity were shown to be incorrect.

E. As mentioned in the first paragraph, other scientists believed in the evolution. They differ from Darwin in the way evolution is carried.

Only option A remains.

This seems like a very old passage and also the source is not available. I would advice you to try passages that have a source and relatively new. If you search through the forum, you should find plenty.
