Between B and C i think it should be B
(B) Although she _________________, Barbara
(B)The emphasis is on Barbara and is referred to as she in the beginning. Choice C takes the focus from Barbara to time by using it was not until .
Whats the OA ?

Straight B
were is correct, as it refers to hearings, not impeachment.
Barbara Jordan needs to follow the initial modifier

Answer is B for me. ACD have obvious dangling modifier issues. Between B and E, E has other subject verb and redundancy issues. prasannar wrote: Although she had been known as an effective legislator first in the Texas Senate and later in the United States House of Representatives, not until Barbara Jordan’s participation in the hearings on the impeachment of President Richard Nixon in 1974 was she made a nationally recognized figure, as it was televised nationwide.

We need Barbara Jordan after the comma 2. We need "were" to refer back to hearings

I think it should be C. According to rule of grammar, whenever you have "which" placed after a prepositional phrase and a comma, the "which" will refer back to the subject of the prepositional phrase. For example:
the hearings on the impeachment of President Richard Nixon, which was
the 2 that i've underlined are referred to each other. Based on that, I agree that the answer is C.
As for option B, we don't need to have barbara after the comma because we already have the subject before the comma. that subject is "she" so this is no longer a modifier, but rather a clause. Barbara would be needed right after the comma if we had a modifier that doesn't have a subject. Since "she" is already mentioned in the first sentence, "barbara" can be anywhere in the sentence and it will be understood that "she" is referred to "barbara."

B it is. I went initially with C, but just like the startupaddict said, it’s not about her, it’s the hearings. The proper question to ask would be “What was televised nationwide? Barbara or the hearings?

My answer is B.
Although she had been known as an effective legislator first in the Texas Senate and later in the United States House of Representatives, not until Barbara Jordan’s participation in the hearings on the impeachment of President Richard Nixon in 1974 was she made a nationally recognized figure, as it was televised nationwide.
A. later in the United States House of Representatives, not until Barbara Jordan’s participation in the hearings on the impeachment of President Richard Nixon in 1974 was she made a nationally recognized figure, as it was - Incorrect pronoun reference. There is no noun for the pronoun 'he' in the first part of the sentence and 'she' in the second part.
B. later in the United States House of Representatives, Barbara Jordan did not become a nationally recognized figure until 1974, when she participated in the hearings on the impeachment of President Richard Nixon, which were -No Grammatical error though the use of when is not the best.
C. later in the Untied States House of Representatives, it was not until 1974 that Barbara Jordan became a nationally recognized figure, with her participation in the hearings on the impeachment of President Richard Nixon, which was -Incorrect subject-verb agreement. 'which was' indicates singular while 'hearings' is plural.
D. then also later in the United States House of Representatives, not until 1974 did Barbara Jordan become a nationally recognized figure, as she participated in the hearings on the impeachment of President Richard Nixon, being -Sentence construction makes no sense
E. then also later in the United States House of Representatives, Barbara Jordan did not become a nationally recognized figure until 1974, when she participated in the hearings on the impeachment of President Richard Nixon, which was -Incorrect - same mistake as C.
