Although the managers have a schedule for the ad campaign in place, preliminary focus groups revealed that their plan will have to be altered as a result of the company logo turnig our to be so universally disapproved of

a.

b. is to be altered on account of the universal account proposal which the company logo encountered.

c. had to be altered becuase the company logo had encountered such universal disapproval.

d. has to be altered because of the company logo and its universal disapproval.

e. must be altered becuase the company logo encountered such universal disapproval.

I would appreciate if you can also elaborate on why c is wrong. Thanks a lot in adance!

if you post the question in complete, would be easy to answer. with incomplete question, its difficult to say why a given choice is best or wrong.

not C because 'had to be' is not the correct tense here. the focus groups have pointed out some flaw in the ad on account of which the ad should be altered, hence 'must' is better than 'had to be'.

answer should be E.

I'will pick E using POE...

A. on account of is wordy and need because
B. Same as A
C. Has most of stuff correct but eliminated due to -had to be-
D.Need a subject begin subordinate claue after becasue
E. All points taken care of. Don't see any problem with this one.

Someone mentioned using PoE. Spot on. Actually it is a good example of using PoE. You will end up with E.
C is wrong because of had to ... original sentace has 'have'
