A is the ans. Is A better than C because "Turks" follows "more than 50 mil" so "the" is needed before "more than 50 mil" ???

"the" is necessary because the author considers ALL Turks and the number of all Turks is fixed

"...more than 50 million..." sounds as though there can be 60 or 70 million of Turks
