I'm thinking about joining the alumni network from my undergrad school. It just so happens that I'm also applying to their b-school. Can I put this on my application, or does it look a bit fishy given the join date will be so close to the application date, or is it better late then never?

Better late than never, but it will be pretty transparent.

Joining is one thing being active is another. I know I am part of my alumni group but that just means I pay dues, am on an email list, and get a newsletter. I dont think getting involved 2 months before you apply is going to add much to your application. Its not a promotion or something you earned so I doubt the school is going to care.
