"I have been following people getting admits in those schools, but no clear picture I could make, as the profiles/GPAs/scores are very diverse..."

What you summed up is correct indeed!

What kind of career you want to move into after getting the degree? Obviously, quality of your application depends on how well you can map your experiences towards that and the choice of schools depends on the career goal factor. Given that your experience is on the lower side and you are an Indian IT pro, your professional experiences may not stand up too tall for most of the top 10 schools. Do you plan to move into some area where the top 10 placements are not too strong (say into software companies)? Then your profile is pretty good. However, your GMAT score might work against your plans for a career in MConsulting/Finance - and top 10 schools attract very strong candidates who want to move into/stay in those fields.

To sum up:
Pros: You extra curricular activities are good
Acad potential is good (decent school and more importantly 3 pubs)
Cons: Experience may not be rich enough
GMAT score may not be competitive against Indian pool applying to top10

Depends on: Career goal, choice of schools, quality of essays

Hope this helps! BoL!

You can target schools ranked 5-10 if you can show some leadership experiences in your app.Apply for backups too.
