am i too old? [#permalink] New post 07 Apr 2007, 05:57
hi people,

i will be 28 this coming october. at the moment i have abt 4.5 yrs of full time w/x and a low gmat of 640. i work for a fortune 50 company at Associate Consultant level. am iinto technical consulting in IT, indian origin. would it be too late if i join bschool at the age of 30? my target is top 20 US bschools. i am preparing for gmat, but i dont know if i will be able to make it up for this season.

so tell me guys, whether i am too late....should i quit now? i have been trying to make a bschool app for quite some time, but circumstances never permitted full focus. i did get into MElbourne Business School, but looks like it isnt worth the time and money.

please drop in your advice.

thanks,
crazyfin.

Why don't you think you'll make it for this season? This time last year I hadn't even started studying for the GMAT yet.

this age factor scaring me more than hell...i dont know what will be my marketability at 32? with loads of loan on my head.

Don't sweat the age thing, you're not too old. Certainly some schools prefer younger candidates, but 30 is definitely not too old.

Take it from the oldest guy at the club (soon to be 34), as long as you think you can handle the course work and extracurriculars you will be fine.

By the way, some b-school students are well into their 30s, a small percentage are in their 40s, and a handful are even in their 50s.

Age isn't the issue; it's one's frame of mind that matters most.

You will be in the normal range for virtually every single business school if you apply this fall.

As Pelihu said, you are well within the range. The average at most schools is 28/27. Perhaps you're fixating on this minor age point when something else is really bothering you?

yes to all the above. Build your GMAT with some work and get involved in some "good", distinctive extra-curriculars. Mostly the stuff you think you should have done but hadn't found the time to - now you have a reason, because they apprectiate them.

No, you are not too old. Now quit finding excuses and go study for GMAT. And this time next year bring us some respectable admits!
