'Among the many reasons' is singular.

So we can cancel out B,C and D as they are using the word 'were'.

Again, 'constituents' is plural.
We can eliminate E as it uses 'was'.

WE are left with the correct answer A.

IMO B because the subject is plural(arrogant assumption and unwarranted attack)

B.

I believe that 'among many reasons' is indeed plural.

I was a bit confused at first, but I quickly decided that 'among many reasons' would be plural because there were two reasons for the defeat.

Among many reasons were A and B.

OA?

I will go with B.
"And" is making the subject plural.

What is OA?

subject is plural..."among many reasons"
Hence verb is "were" - B is correct.

C. were his arrogant assumptions that his constituents were incapable of understanding economical conditions

E. was the arrogant assumption that his constituents was incapable of understanding economic conditions

I went with B.

was/were split -> needs to be were because two reasons are given. arrogant assumption... and unwaranted attack on his chief opponent.
B, C, D -> D - Ruled out because "constituents would be" indicates future. C - Ruled out because only one assumption is stated in the first reason for defeat.

+1 B
IMO, "among" can be plural or singular.
e.g.: Among the champions were Button and Alonso.

What do you think?

"and" makes the verb to be " were" so choice B is correct.

IMO B. 'and' conjunction requires plurality.
