how to time myself for each question type while practicing? [#permalink] New post 12 Jan 2012, 07:00
Like for sc I try to spend not more than a minute on every question I want to know what is the amount of time that I should spend on each cr, ds, ps question during gmat exam?
how much time should I spend in reading the long and short passages and their questions?
I'm preparing myself, no coaching. I'm having a problem timing myself while practicing.Please help me out :)

It's all about averages.

On math, you want to spend an average of 2 mins/problem. Verbal, 1.75 mins/problem. Since we're talking about averages, it means in blocks of problems you should fit in this mold. Easy problems/short problems you should zip through, more difficult problems will swing above average.

Keep track of timing on blocks of problems, not individual ones. If you get caught up in individual ones, you'll be watching the clock too much and this can cause its own problems.
