An appliance store ells two sizes of air conditioners, an 8000 btu air conditioner for $235 and a 14,000 but air conditioner for $465. If, during a certain sale, the store sold three more of the 8,000 btu models than the 14,000 btu models and generated revenues of 3,495, how many air conditioners did it sell?

A)3
B)6
C)9
D)12
E)13

The way they explain how to do this problem is allowing x to equal the less expensive air conditioner:

Then they give the following equation:

235x + 465(x+3) = 3,495

If x is the the cheap air conditioner shouldn't the second part be 465 (x-3). For some reason this doesn't make sense. Doesn't it say there are three more of the cheap ari conditioner. If the problem screwed up or is it my head??

"the store sold three more of the 8,000 btu models than the 14,000 btu models"

in problem looks wrong. It was, i guess, intended to be:
"the store sold three more of the 14,000 btu models than the 8,000 btu models"

In this case ans(as explained in OE) will be C (9).
