An easy willingness to tell funny stories or jokes about oneself is the surest mark of supreme self-confidence. This willingness, often not acquired until late in life, is even more revealing than is good-natured acquiescence in having others poke fun at one.

i think its simple.
the first sentence has a sufficient condition in it when it says surest way. HEnce sufficient condition.
easyness to tell jokes abt himself.-->Mark of Supreme Self Confidence
when the contraspositive of the statemetn is taken,
Lack of self confidence -> not easy to tell jokes abt himself.

I would choose A solely based on scope.
(A) Only deals with subjects mentioned
(B) Was there any mention about joking about others?
(C) There was no mention of them trying to demonstrate it to others; joking about him/herself is a side-effect of self-confidence
(D) Comparison not warranted
(E) Who said anything about respect?
