What's wrong with b?
I looked up dictionary, and it says that group is used as plural. Did I find a wrong answer?

Also, I don't understand why OA is correct.

"an average global warming" is need. "global warming to average" is wrong.

"Group" is collective noun, so it is singular. All collective noun such as army, team, herb, ... is used in singular form. Which kind of dictionaries you used stated that "group" is singular form. Maybe you mistake :D.

I agree that "collective nouns" are singular...but are we not talking about individuals? so will it not be plural?
