i think the answer should be A since the question is stating that there are 12 dozens in 1 gross and that the statement 1 is stating that there are 6 gross in the shipment that means there are 72 dozens and that there are 12 pencils in one dozen and therefore there are 12*72 pencils . So tats sufficient. Where am i going wrong?

Hi longhaul123

1 Gross=12 dozens=144 items is a unit and is a universal truth. even if the question had not given this hint, you can always convert gross into dozens.

Statement 1 provide you the number of boxes but does not provide the information as to how many pencils are there in each box. In the highlighted part you have assumed that each box contain 1 dozen of pencils but this fact is not mentioned in the question stem or in Statement 1.

Rather if you read Statement 2, then it clearly mentions that each box contain 3 dozen pencils and NOT 1 dozen.
