Analysis of an argument [#permalink] New post 26 Jun 2013, 23:31
Hi everyone, next week am writing GMAT.This is my first Analysis of an argument. Please rate it that would help me a lot.
Thanks.

“In order to effectively reduce the amount of environmental damage that industrial manufacturing plants cause, those
who manage the plants must be aware of the specific amount and types of damage caused by each of their various
manufacturing processes. However, few corporations have enough financial incentive to monitor this information. In
order to guarantee that corporations reduce the damage caused by their plants, the federal government should
require every corporation to produce detailed annual reports on the environmental impact of their manufacturing
process, and the government should impose stiff financial penalties for failure to produce these reports.”
Discuss how well reasoned . . .etc.

The argument presents the issue of the environmental damage caused by various industrial manufacturing plants.
The author assumes that by presenting annual reports on the environmental impact of the manufacturing process the damage can be reduced or controlled.

I do agree with the tone set by the author. with the increasing population and increasing demands the number of manufacturing industries are growing day by day. The goal of any profit oriented business is to make huge profits. In order to reach the goal they will try to minimise the cost that do not help them in making profits . One such cost involved is disposal of waste formed during the manufacturing process. Disposal of waste is unique the type of the product manufactured and depends on the ingredients used.

In order to minimize the cost they may either dump in water or bury in earth layers. which is very hazardous on public health and impact of the damage is more on the environment by polluting natural resources, another reason for global warming Hence the initiation taken by the government to reduce the impact of the damage caused to environment is really worth. Every corporation has to send annual reports on the environmental impact of their manufacturing and their failing to do so will be levied with huge financial penalties.

Federal Government with the help of these reports can find and suggest better ways of disposing waste and hence government will be able to control these industries by not damaging environment and protecting the natural resources which is very important for the life of a mankind.
