The tourism tax revenues of Sun City will continue to fall unless the city government takes action to bring our health resort industry up to the standard of other tourist destinations in our region. Our main competitor for tourists, Warm Springs City, completed two state-of-the-art spa complexes last year, and their level of tourism increased by over 20 percent; Sun City ’ s tourist level, however, actually declined for the fifth year in a row. If the city government does not sponsor the construction of a spa in Sun City, there is no chance that these trends will reverse
The argument that if the city government does not sponsor the construction of a spa in Sun City, there is no chance that revenues will increase is not entirely logically convincing because it ignores certain critical assumptions.
Firstly, the argument assumes that the 20 per cent increase in the level of tourism in Warm Springs City is due to the completion of the two state-of-the-art spa complexes. This increase could also have been a result of several other factors such as attractive offers provided by the authorities in Warm Springs City , a favorable weather for the tourism industry or even favorable policies by the authorities . Cheap hotels with exciting offers have almost always attracted tourists and thus may have been the reason that the tourists are turning up in large numbers and hence an increase of over 20 percent.
Secondly, the argument wrongly assumes that if the government of Sun City does not sponsor a spa complex , there is no chance that number of tourists can be increased. The authorities of Sun City can adopt several other methods to boost the tourism in their city. One of the ways to boost the tourism is by encouraging the business community to construct a wide variety of hotel and accommodations which can in turn attract tourists to Sun City. Another way of boosting tourism is by tightening the security for the tourists in the city , in turn making the city safer for tourists to travel even during off hours. The government in Sun City can also advertise in a way to reach out to more people regarding the facilities and attractions in Sun City.
Thirdly, the argument wrongly assumes that if the government sponsors the construction of the state-of-the-art spas, the trend of poor tourism will be reversed. There is no evidence to provide such an insight that the tourists favor destinations with spas and will be more attracted if a city possesses a state-of-the-art spas. It is possible that the tourists might not choose to come to Sun City because a spa already exists in Warm Springs City.
Ultimately , the argument could have been more convincing by providing reasons for the decline in tourist level in Sun City and the increase in tourist level in Warm Springs City. In light of such evidences, it would be more logical to formulate a plan to increase the tourism in Sun City.
