How much time should i invest in preparation for an AWA? How much important role does this play in the evaluation of your Bschool application? Any advice. Thanks.

I think last 3-4 days before GMAT for AWA is good enough. Just go though the formats posted in different GMAT forums. Try to practice 3-4 AWA's. That will be good enough.

As long as you're at or above 4 it won't raise any flag. But if you get only 2/6 and have a well-polished essay, the adcom might raise some suspicion.

Yup - allocating several days before the exam is optimal. Just make sure the allocation does not overlap with another allocation - such as reviewing errors, etc. (way more important btw)
