Ancient Egyptian mummies were doused with natron, a compound [#permalink]
Ancient Egyptian mummies were doused with natron, a compound that absorbs water and prevents bacterial growth, and wrapped in cloth to prevent from decomposing.

(A) to prevent from
(B) in order that they would stop
(C) in order to stop from
(D) to prevent
(E) to prevent them from

Ancient Egyptian mummies were wrapped in cloth to prevent Ancient Egyptian mummies from decomposing. ? I don't think this makes sense.
Ancient Egyptian mummies were wrapped in cloth to prevent decomposing.
I chose this answer . i.e. D can someone explain me how E is better than D .
If prevent from is IDIOM, answer option a would sound great. right! ?
Thank you

Its idiom, Prevent A from B. Thats why compared to option A and D,its option E which has the correct usage of idiom.

Between A and E:
Why is "them" required explicitly when there's no ambiguity that "mummy" is being referred here. What else besides "mummy" could be referred here?
