AND IF YOU DON'T GET IN WHAT WILL YOU DO OF YOUR LIFE? [#permalink]
27 Apr 2007, 12:23
WELL WELL WELL, many of us does not even consider the possibility of not getting in, but if we don't?
what we are going to do next? kill ourselves? jump out the bridge? run away to some far galaxy?
I established for myself some plans. The MBA is my plan B, that now comes up to be the plan A. Plan A was getting a job in London or NY, what came to be very difficult for someone who lives in a thrid world country.
Now, I see as my plan B taking some risks and maybe kicking my actual job...even if it is just for a while.
plan C? well, if everything goes wrong I will study for JOB EXAMS with an eternal perspective of earning a salary and having a burocrat career.
plan D, I did not come up yet with this plan yet, but if I have some funds after all my attempts, I can go for a start-p on some luxurious night club.
AND YOU , WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS?

Plan B is to change my job, get a higher paid salary and live the life. You are right, take job exams and upgrade, or take other minor exams to gain cross-industry knowledge to upgrade the job scope.
Plan C is to apply again in some time, or apply to something different.
Plan D: start own business. The world like this is not for low-salaried employees. You either earn high salary, or do your own business. Thinking of people earning 30k/year. Their savings for these years would be nothing in their retirement years when inflation would kill all their savings that seem good only in current day.
Never thought of living permanently in cities such as NY or London. If I work there, once I make enough money, I'll pack and leave the hectic big cities for somewhere nicer.

Nice question.
I've been stressed out with the plans and the possibility of failure.
If I fail, then no more love. I'll apply some years later than 2009, after I'm done with setting up a family (being married with someone other than this current one).
Get the story mate?

I think,
People who don't consider them as strong candidates should have an alternative plan.
But people who are confident and who are strong never need a plan B.
haha. well.

Good question. My "alternative" or "emergency" plan - assuming i dont do well on the GMATs OR get into any business school - is to start my own company. I've had a ton of ideas in the past, all fairly easy to implement, but with work + college, it's so tough to work them through.
One of my many goals in life, like many others, is to become financially stable. That goal will either become true if I go to business school OR if i decide to start/open my own business.
I never put all my eggs into one basket ;]

I'm looking at an MBA as a catapult that I'm putting my ass in it and yelling "PULL!". Realistically, it is a way to leapfrog and get my career going on 100 octane race gas, but enough of the metaphors.
I think I can get to where I want to be long term (Director position or better) by hard work and an extra 10+ years of slugging it though.

Well, my plan B is to probably to try to go to graduate school (or a certification program) to get certified to teach elementary school. That's actually what I got my undergrad degree in, however, at OSU you can't get certified to teach as an undergrad.
What brought me to the decision to go for an MBA instead, is the fact that I've been working for lobbyists for the past 7 years. A lot of this time was while I was in undergrad. Unfortunately, being married, I couldn't afford to go work at a daycare center part-time for minimum wage, and therefore I have no practical experience working with children.
Another factor is that I am not 22 anymore (and haven't been for several years!) and if I should spend 2 years and quite a bit of money to either go to graduate school or a certification program to get certified to teach, I would end up making less money than I am now (and also less than I was making with no degree at all).
But, it's always an option!
