Milestones & Lessons: Another Outstanding Admissions Season
The admissions season is not over yet, but I figured now was a good time to reflect on what we have seen over the past season at GMAT Club.
I wanted to take another opportunity to call our collective attention to the many successful GMAT Club members this admissions season.
Once again, we have had students accepted to schools across the globe from the ultraelite to various excellent regional schools. We have seen admissions to the elite, near elite, near elite frontier, top cluster Europe, top cluster Canada, trans elite, and ultra elite. Beyond admission to impressive programs, many students have been offered scholarships and fellowships as well.
Once again we have seen the value of the carefully crafted portfolio. The most successful students avoided the seemingly ever-present danger of self-imposed constraints; the almost insatiable desire to eliminate promising schools based on the thinnest of pretexts. The most successful students looked beyond the stereotypes to find quality in unexpected places. As in so many places in life, those who kept an open mind were in the best position to spot promising opportunities that others had missed. And, of course, the most successful students were often the ones who planned well in advance.
Over the past few months it has been my pleasure to assist dozens of your fellow GMAT Clubbers through Hjort’s Offer. While I certainly cannot take the credit for the success of those who accepted Hjort’s Offer, I can say with pride that I made the unpleasant task of applying easier and that I encouraged many to bring out the best in themselves. I have read hundreds of essays, and sometimes the same essay what seemed like hundreds times. While there is no easy shortcut to a great essay, I have seen some effective shortcuts to weak essays. Perhaps the best is a thinly disguised derivative from a collection of “Essays that Worked for X School of Businessâ€

Please accept my sincere appreciation for your work and your willingness to help so many applicants. I certainly think the information and the services you have provided here is of benefit to countless applicants, especially those in foreign countries.
You are a personification of what the Club is meant to be: A place to give.
And so, for bridging this information gap for so many of us, for your willingness to give and share, for your patience and determination, for the hope you give so many, i thank you.
