A. is reflective, so that little polar ice melts during the summer; otherwise,
B. is so reflective that little of the polar ice melts during the summer; were it to do so,
C. so reflective that little polar ice melts during the summer, or else
D. reflective, so that little of the polar ice melts during the summer, or
E. reflects so that little of the polar ice melts during the summer; if it did

I choose A.
I think that reflective like unigue it can not be used with so. The ice is either reflective or not. So B and C are out. In choice D there is no verb after ice it cannot be just ice reflective.
In choice E ice reflects but reflects what? i think it's wrong and for the parallelism i think it should be that temp. are so cold and the ice is reflective.

then what is about the second part of the sentence? what is were it to do so? to do what? in choice A the ice is reflective that's why the sun rays don't go inside the ocean. An the second part concludes that otherwise the rays go inside the ice and melt the water and rise the water level.
I still think that the right choice is A.

A is good.
temps are so cold and the ice cap is reflective, so that little polar ice melts during the summer; otherwise, the water levels of the oceans would rise 250 feet and engulf most of the world’s great cities.

Man I completely missed the verb for ice. cute_smiley is right. The answer would have been C if it was is so reflective. Without the is, i am leaning towards A.
I just do not like the way A reads. I guess thats how GMAT tricks you.

B is very weird.
There's no conjuction btwn second independent clause and first independent clause. And "were it to do so" is very weird..
any explanation?

This post received KUDOS
1. For a parallel construction you need the so- so.A, D, E OUT
2. C ellipses the 'are'. This is wrong because the verb that agrees with little polar ice should be singular. So C out.
B remains.
P.S: C would be right if it read like 'is so reflective that little polar ice melts during the summer, or else '
