Any admissions value in joining Toastmasters? [#permalink] New post 02 Jan 2008, 10:11
I am a US born MBA applicant considering joining Toastmasters. If I am looking at joining purely for admissions reasons, do you think its worth it?

I scored a 98% on my verbal section, so I don't need to show I am improving, and I am pretty active in extracuriculars - Board of directors for a non-profit, and do volunteer strategic marketing with another 2.

I like Toastmasters, and I am sure I will reap benefits personally, but from a purely admissions standpoint is it worth the time?

FWIW - my sticking points will be an only average math section, and an average GPA for my desired schools (part time Univ of Chicago, and part time Kellogg)

Thanks in advance!!!

Morepower4me,

No, given the particulars of your situation, I do not think joining Toastmaster's would have any measureable positive impact on your application.

Good luck,

If your verbal score is weak or English is a second language and/or your work does not involve communications and presentations (ie it's highly technical or quantitative), Toastmasters could help you from an admissions perspective.

Best,
Linda
