(E) the presence of a condition when it is there and indicate its presence

C

Take a look at the last part of the sentence..."when it is not"
Only C is parallel to this.
The last part of A & B should be: "when there is not"
D & E use "presence" - not parallel.

Any medical test will sometimes fail to detect a condition when it is present and indicate that there is one when it is not.

(A) a condition when it is present and indicate that there is one -"There is one" - not a proper usage
(B) when a condition is present and indicate that there is one - fail to detect something - when is used to denote a time. fail to detect X when Y happened.
(C) a condition when it is present and indicate that it is present - Correct. it correctly and logically refers to condition.
(D) when a condition is present and indicate its presence - Same issue as point out in B)
(E) the presence of a condition when it is there and indicate its presence - fail to detect a condition and not presence of condition. Somehow I feel presence is redundant.

Any medical test will sometimes fail to detect a condition when it is present and indicate that there is one when it is not.

(A) a condition when it is present and indicate that there is one
(B) when a condition is present and indicate that there is one
(C) a condition when it is present and indicate that it[refers to condition] is present..
(D) when a condition is present and indicate its presence
(E) the presence of a condition when it is there and indicate its presence->awkward construction

, E is not concise

Any medical test will sometimes fail to detect a condition when it is present and indicate that it is present when it is not.
I choose C too. C is only choice makes sentence parallel.

I would say E.
It's not C because the "it" is ambiguous; we cannot tell if it refers to the medical test or the condition.
Any medical test will sometimes fail to detect a condition when it is present => what is present? the medical test or the condition?

I think E, although wordy, conserves the parallelism:
"will fail to detect the presence of a condition when it is there and indicate its presence when it is not."

Pronoun "It" refers to "medical condition".
//ism is maintained.

Any medical test will sometimes fail to detect a condition when it is present and indicate that there is one when it is not.

(A) a condition when it is present and indicate that there is one - Parallelism issue
(B) when a condition is present and indicate that there is one - Parallelism issue . Shifts emphasis to timing of the condition rather than condition itself
(C) a condition when it is present and indicate that it is present - Correct
(D) when a condition is present and indicate its presence - Shifts emphasis to timing of the condition rather than condition itself and meaning error
(E) the presence of a condition when it is there and indicate its presence - the presence when it is there makes the presence redundant ; parallelism error

"when it is not" is ellipsis pattern. we need "it is " in the previous phrase. there is no such phrase. wrong
"there is one" should be followed by "when there is not". for this point, a and b are gone.

because we have
when it is not
we need
"it is" in previous to make ellipsis logic.

only choice c has "it is" so C is correct.
