any medical test will fail to detect a condition -------> hold A and C

any medical test will fail when a condition is present -----> B and D are OUT for change of meaning.

Now look at E - awkward and wordy OUT
(E) the presence of a condition when it is there (where??? ) and indicate its presence

the presence is redundant. it could have said ---> any medical test will fail to detect a condition

Now look at A and C

(A) a condition when it is present and indicate that there is one >>> where ?? OUT

C is left.
(C) a condition when it is present and indicate that it is present

IMO : C

solution booklet says ans is E.

Instruments detect the presence of a condition not a condition .. so E
