Anyone wanna pursue PhD in Finance? [#permalink] New post 18 May 2004, 03:02
Dear,

Anyone wanna pursue PhD in finance? I just found this web site last week so I am quite new at here. Anyway, there are a lot of useful information for improving my GMAT score :-) Right now, my GMAT is just 650 and TOEFL is 263 :-(. I think that only 2nd tier is enough for me....

Any suggestion? I'm now writing my statement of purpose and I am quite blank about what I should include. Since my TOEFL and GMAT scores are not so excellent, Statement of purpose may be another factor that I should concentrate. Should anyone has a sample of statement of purpose or know any websites, please let me know. If it's pertinent to PhD in finance, it would be great!!

Thank you krub :-)

Welcome to GMATClub, Becoolja.

PhD in Finance is a most sought after discipline. Believe me, you are against the toughest competition.

SOP is personal, so I cannot comment on it, moreover I do not even know your background to give any pointers. For a PhD in finance, Toefl scores are relatively unimportant but GMAT is. I would sincerely advice you to concentrate on improving your score to a minimum of 720+, without which internationals have very little scope to get selected, unless the rest of the app is extraordinary (like climbed Mt Everest or starred with Meryl Streep in a couple of films....I am joking.. but you get the gist).

Also, if you have prior RA/TA or research experience, put that in SOP/ app.

Let us have some more data to comment on.

Dear Anupag,

Thank you very much for your quick reply to my query. You know? After a short time of my scanning through each topic, I feel that all people here are so broad-minded and willing to healp one another. It's my luck to find this web site in time. I would take your suggestion into consideration when drafting my SOP krub. Right now, I should focus on GMAT and hope that I can improve it eventually. Then, I will ask you and other friends here for comment on my SOP.

Nice to know everone here krub.

Ciao
