now that I am in school, i'll put my two cents on the iPad:
1. It is a good tool overall, especially for textbooks and reading cases. 2. the big con is that if you like writing notes on your readings, then you probably won't like it as much. Some textbook apps let you highlight, etc but it is not as easy as it would be from pen to paper imo at least. 3. An iPad can replace a lot of the needs for a laptop but some of the hard core software you may have to use will all but require you to have a computer.

Curious for more opinions on this - not specifically for an ipad but for tablets in general. Do people find they can get most of their textbooks as ebooks?

I'm definitely buying a tablet once I get to school. What remains to be decided is whether it's the latest iPad or Android-based model.

From my experience so far, no one really uses (and definitely not buy) a textbook in MBA, so don't get an iPad for textbooks. It can be handy to read WSJ or browse the web in class when laptops are banned (like someone already mentioned). Otherwise in most cases you can just whip out your laptop or coursepack (again don't carry the whole binder everyday, take out the pages you need and use a binder clip). iPad can be handy when you are stuck in a plane or want to look at websites while watching tv.

Anybody has experience using the likes of VNC applications on the iPad in b-school? A VNC application is an internet terminal window to your home computer where one may run complex applications in a native environment, like Windows Office 2010, etc.

I know both are available on Android tablets, I don't know off-hand for iPad.
