Hey all,
I'm relatively new on this site and came across it through a couple of threads that showed up on Google after i searched "MBA admissions subpar GPA". I was an Economics Major in college and don't really have an extenuating circumstance to explain for my 2.77 overall GPA. Post-Bacclaurette I decided to go to Audio Engineering School which was a passion of mine and graduated top of my class. From there I began to work at the most prestigious Recording Studio in New York City and climbed all the ranks. Towards the end I definitely took some good experiences with me, got credited on Jay-Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail. Ended up engineering on Beyonce's upcoming album. Although it sounded all glamorous and all, the hours were ungodly and the pay wasn't competitive. Anyhow I left and decided to pursue a career path with more stability(Financially/Work Hours etc.) I just signed up recently for Manhattan GMAT to see if I can raise my score above 700 to stand a chance. Through some research I've heard some universities have a holistic view when reviewing applications. If you guys have any tips how I can help make-up for my low gap, sell my story, get my behind into an MBA program. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

All the best,
Jonathan

Start by figuring out what you want to do post your MBA and how MBA is the next step towards it. Nail your career goals and everything would fall into place. 2 tips to do that -
1.) research thoroughly
2.) Don't pick up something that is completely unrelated to your past work experience. For instance, it would be absurd if you said you wanted to work in the pharma industry, next.

If you are applying in R2 and are completely new to the process, I'd recommend using some professional help.

+ you can't get away without explaining that gpa. So, reflect and see what you did in your UG. participated in some extra-curricular activities because of which your grades dropped? or something. There has to be a story behind it. Go through the low gpa threads on the forum. There's tons of info there.
